Eisner keynote preaches the importance of creativity and the cash box

Michael Eisner, former CEO of Walt Disney Company and the founder of The Tornante Company, said that no matter whether your are a film-maker, producer, buyer, seller, financier, distributor, working in old media, working in new media, “there is one thing that all of us share in common and that is that we worship at the altar of creativity“.

At his Creativity In A Box keynote, Eisner said: From my point of view, there is one methodology that increases the odds of consistency in success and that is the box,” adding that early in the production, you have to determine the size of the box.

“The financial box can be very small on the internet – just thousands of dollars,” he said. “But whatever the size, the vital element is creativity.” And, he noted: “Creativity needs a symbiotic fiscal discipline.”

Eisner said that there was a very uncreative methodology that made it all work and that is micro-management.

It is the best route to effective management of a project,” he said, noting that Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Signs, Good Morning Vietnam and Lion King were all micro-managed.
