ACTRESS THANDIE NEWTON TO PRESENT ENTERTAINMENT ONE’S SERIES “ROGUE”

Paris, February 2013 – MIPTV today announces that Entertainment One’s (eOne) President & CEO, Darren Throop, will give a keynote address on Monday 8 April, as part of MIPTV’s Media Mastermind keynotes series. Organised by Reed MIDEM, MIPTV will take place in Cannes from 8-11 April 2013.

Following eOne’s recent acquisition of Alliance Entertainment, Darren Throop will discuss the future of his group’s expanding multi-territory, multi-platform business and express his vision of actively acquiring ownership of content rights for exploitation across all media platforms around the world.

Under Darren Throop’s leadership, eOne has become a leading global independent entertainment content owner, producer and distributor. Through corporate acquisitions and partnerships, Throop has expanded the group’s global footprint and eOne’s catalog today includes more than 35,000 film and television titles, 2,700 hours of television programming and 45,000 music tracks.

eOne is bringing its highly-anticipated series “ Rogue” to MIPTV. The new Canada/UK co-production stars celebrated BAFTA Award-winning British actress Thandie Newton, who will fly down to the French Riviera to present “Rogue” to international buyers and press. Newton accompanies the series creator, writer and supervising producer Matthew Parkhill (“The Caller,” “Dot the I”), its showrunner, executive producer and co-director Nick Hamm (“Killing Bono,” “The Hole”), eOne’s Television International President, Peter Emerson, and DIRECTV’s Entertainment VP, Patricia Ishimoto.

Thandie Newton was praised for her work in the Academy Award-winning Best Picture of 2006, “Crash,” for which she won a BAFTA. She received rave reviews for her performance in Jonathan Demme’s 1998 adaptation of Toni Morrison’s novel, “Beloved,” co-starring Oprah Winfrey. She also starred in John Woo’s “Mission: Impossible II,” Oliver Stone’s “W,” as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and in Michael Crichton’s hit series “ER.”

Thandie Newton spoke at the Ted Global Conference in 2011, on the topic of “Embracing Otherness,” and her address has been viewed on the web over 750,000 times.

A smart, complex, character-led thriller exploring loss, grief, identity, family bonds, second chances and redemption, “Rogue” revolves around Grace Travis (Thandie Newton), a morally and emotionally-conflicted undercover detective who is tormented by the possibility that her own actions contributed to her son’s death. Shot in Vancouver in 2012, the series is a co-production from Entertainment One and Greenroom Entertainment, produced in participation with The Movie Network, Movie Central and DIRECTV.
